We try to answer questions daily. Questions are not posted until they are answered.

Here are answers to the commonly asked questions about where to resell Painted Ponies, and what their current value is:

When collectors choose to resell their Painted Ponies, we recommend doing so on eBay. There is also a Facebook group, which was set up by Painted Ponies collectors and is not monitored by The Trail of Painted Corporate Office, where you can offer your Painted Ponies for sale. Here is a link to that Facebook group:

To find the current perceived value of your Painted Ponies, we suggest searching on eBay for the same figurine with a similar edition number. If you have an eBay account, you can look up what that particular figurine has sold for recently, and that will give you an even more accurate perceived value.

How can I prove what a retired horse is worth for insurance reasons?
Response From Trailmaster:
This is a difficult question to answer, as there is no official pricing guide, and different retired Ponies can resell for different prices. Certainly you can check and see if a particular Pony is up for sale on eBay, and that will give you an indication of its current value. Probably best to check with your insurance company and ask them how they determine the value of a collectible.

differnce between a burgundy box and a black box???
Response From Trailmaster:
When the first Painted Pony figurines came out in 2003, they came in a black box. Three or four years later we switched to a burgundy box. There is no intrinsic difference.

not a question a response to this question: Teresa Stoiber from CO wrote on June 15, 2020: What highway/road displays the full sized ponies? Would like to take pictures of them. : in response to this they are several life size ponies on the streets of ogden Utah. along Washington blvd, and Lincoln street. I know of mustang pony, and several others. its a little way from Co but next time im in ogden ill take some pics. and post. if that allowed.
Response From Trailmaster:
Just keep in mind, there were other communities that mounted public art projects featuring life-size horses painted by artists, that were not affiliated with the official Trail of Painted Ponies.

Mark from CA wrote on August 20, 2020:
Do you maintain a list of the total production figures of each design? Can the public view such a list so that they know where their pieces fall within the total production?
Response From Trailmaster:
With over three hundred Painted Pony figurines having been produced, we would prefer to respond to specific inquiries regarding production numbers.

Response From Trailmaster:
We did not keep track of how many pins/pendants were sold, and no, they did not come with a story card.

trail of painted ponies Cowboy Christmas can you still buy this anywhere and how much should I expect to pay.
Response From Trailmaster:
This holiday Pony sold out over the Christmas season. You may find one for sale on eBay, however, and the price will be determined by the seller.

do you still have or can I still get the War Pony? i cant find them anywhere? do you still sale them?
Response From Trailmaster:
War Pony was our all-time most popular Painted Pony, and was retired a number of years ago. So that is why it is hard to find. Other than the single casting of every Pony that we keep in our Vault, we do not have any more available for sale. Your best bet is to keep an eye out for it on eBay.

Hello, I have a blank painted pony I am working on, I am wondering if polymer clay can be baked on the artist grade resin to add accents, saddle and other details before painting?
Response From Trailmaster:
The answer to your question is, "I don't know." If anyone reading this has experience doing this, please write and let me know and I will post the answer. Rod@paintedponies.com.

I have retired westland ghost horse and there is no number after E/. There is barcode a sticker on bottom that s has a print Ghost horse figure and West and 4.00 Can you tell me if this means its a pre E pony or ? And why would it say only 4.00? Thank you for your time. Victoria Marlowe
Response From Trailmaster:
Pre E's refer to a select number of the first run of Ponies that were part of the very first release in the winter of 2003, and Ghost Horse was not one of those. It is hard to know what to make of what you describe. Numbering was done by hand so it could have been human error. Also, early on, some retailers were adding their own stickers to the bottoms of their Ponies.

Why are the boots on Fallen Heros backwards?
Response From Trailmaster:
It is a longstanding military tradition that in funeral processions involving horses, the boots of the deceased are placed backwards in the stirrups of a riderless horse, symbolizing the rider looking back towards the living one last time, before riding into the beyond. We felt it was an appropriate touch for a Pony that paid tribute to the first responders who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy.
