Holiday Design Contest 2017
Winners Announced

A Very Special Thank You to everyone who submitted designs!

FIRST PLACE
Drummer Boy by Kelly Kurtz
$250 credit to The Trail of Painted Ponies Official Store

Dressed in his Christmas best, Drummer Boy prances to the beat of his own drum. Playing holiday melodies for all to enjoy. Inspired by one of my favorite Christmas carols, “The Little Drummer Boy,” he brings heartwarming cheer, trotting to his tum-ta-tum tune. Reminiscent of the days of a simpler, more meaningful Christmas, Drummer Boy reminds us all year round that the most precious gifts are those that come straight from the heart.

"Art is the combination of inspiration and imagination. Once you find that thing that inspires you, it’s time for the imagination to take over, and run with it – my favorite part about being an artist! A feeling, a picture, a song lyric, inspiration is as limitless as the imagination. To create something out of sheer passion and imagination is a truly spiritual experience that can only be transcended by the moment you see someone moved by your art as much as you are." - Kelly Kurtz

SECOND PLACE
Peppermint Twist by Lorna Matsuda
$100 credit to The Trail of Painted Ponies Official Store

Peppermint Twist carousel pony is excited to trot into the Christmas Season adorned with his favorite sweet treat peppermints! He just loves the flavor and can smell the peppermint treats hidden in his masters coat pocket when she greets him at the stable on Christmas Morn!!!!!

"Being a realist artist I strive to capture the true spirit and character of each subject I paint. The eyes are a very important factor when I do a painting. I work in many different mediums such as feathers, rock, leather, bone, as well as traditional canvas and acrylic based mediums, along with my beloved Painted Ponies. I also do commissioned work for clients. My art has been a life long journey and will be with me as long as I am able to paint, it inspires me and takes me to a place of peace and tranquility in the many hours I spend painting." - Lorna Matsuda

THIRD PLACE
Dachshund Through the Snow by Sharon Baggett Anderson
$50 credit to The Trail of Painted Ponies Official Store

A fun scene on both sides, showing drifting snowscapes...with a jolly snowman on one side, being a good sport, even though a mischievous Dachshund has decided his stick arm will be perfect, for a game of keep away! And on the other? A Black and Tan Dachshund has "upset" his sleigh of gifts and candy canes!! No worries...a run through a new fallen snow is worth all the trouble!!

Sharon is a self-taught artist, beginning her journey in 1984 with acrylic folk art projects and primitives. After friends, and then others, showed interest in her painting style, she opened a studio at her Georgia farm and taught classes for 14 years, beginner through advanced. That was during her "free" time. Taking care of five little ones and being a stay at home mom was her full time job.

HONORABLE MENTION
Santa's Engine by Bryn Wilkins Lawson

This is "Santa's Engine," a holiday fire truck. It seems to have become a new tradition for towns and cities to celebrate the holidays with an electric light parade featuring cars lit up with lights and decorated for Christmas. This Painted Pony is all decked out in lights and is ready to carry the Grand Marshal (Santa) down Christmas Lane. There is a longtime history of Santa posing with or riding on Fire Trucks in parades.

Bryn Wilkins Lawson is the former Vice President/Creative Director for The Trail of Painted Ponies.
