Cradleboards were traditional sacred Native American infant-carriers. Crafted from wood, leather and cloth, and widely used by indigenous people, they were designed to securely hold a baby while guarding its physical and spiritual well-being. The curved top symbolized a rainbow for protection, and it was held in place by straps tied to a saddle, enabling a baby to accompany its mother when she had to travel on horseback.
