Choose a Theme:

There are two themes to choose from in this National Art Competion. Make sure to check the appropriate theme box on the Artist's Application. Your Painted Pony design should be representative of one of the two themes below.

The Beauty of the Breed: In this category we will be looking for realistic renderings of the Appaloosa horse, artistically presented and composed, as well as creative interpretations of the Appaloosa's colorful markings. For examples of both, view our slideshow by Clicking Here.

The Native Heritage: The Nez Perce Indians complemented the Appaloosa's flashy markings with ornamentations and decorations designed to add to the horse's power. But the Nez Perce were not the only tribe to draw artistic inspiration from the Appy's leopard-spotted coat patterns. In this category we are looking for imaginative interpretations of the ways in which different Indian tribes were, or could have been, inspired.

Deadline May 1, 2013:

All entries must be postmarked or emailed no later than May 1, 2013.
Artists who submit their designs by April 1st will be randomly chosen to have their designs featured on Facebook.

Online Voting May 15th - May 27th:

The top 10 designs in each theme category will be selected and featured online for public voting. Make sure to invite all of your friends and family to vote for their favorite Painted Pony that pays tribute to the Beauty of the Appaloosa Horse Breed and it's Native Heritage.

Judging Criteria:

All competition submissions must pay tribute to the Appaloosa Horse. Keep in mind the winning Pony may be crafted as a collectible figurine from The Trail of Painted Ponies. Artists will need to provide designs for both the front and the back of their Painted Ponies, along with a compelling title and the story.
