Announcing a New and Very Special Art Competition Commemorating
the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terrorist Attack on America

We will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001, a day of unimaginable tragedy that forever altered history and our place in the world.

As a way of remembering, The Trail of Painted Ponies has created two commemorative Painted Ponies.

In 2005, working with the New York Fire Department, New York Police Department, and Port Authority, we produced the
Fallen Heroes Memorial Pony, in honor of the sacrifices of the first responders.

In 2016, on the 15th anniversary of 9/11, we created Unconquered, a powerful design that featured a proud and triumphant stallion dramatically poised atop the ruins of the World Trade Center.

In anticipation of the upcoming 20th anniversary in 2021, The Trail is announcing a new art competition, calling for original designs that remember the horror and heroism of THAT DAY!

Released Summer 2016, 15 years after 9/11/2001
There could be no more deserving example, in modern times,
of bravery and heroic conduct than the firemen and policemen who pay the ultimate price while keeping the rest of us out of harm's way. Drawing on traditional imagery observed at the funerals of military heroes - a riderless horse with a pair of
empty high-top boots fitted in the stirrups backward - The Trail
of Painted Ponies, in collaboration with assorted artisans and craftsmen, created this emotionally stirring and uniquely
American tribute to these Fallen Heroes.

On a literal level, "Unconquered" depicts a magnificent white stallion - radiant and shimmering, mane and tail flying in the wind, a symbol of power, strength and renewal - rising Phoenix-like from the rubble of the fallen World Trade Center that was attacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001. But this only tells half the story, for there is a deeper meaning behind this stunning sculpture. "Unconquered" also stands as an inspiring and patriotic representation of the triumphant response to adversity that defines the indomitable American Spirit.
